Just days after the release of beloved artificial intelligence (AI) assistant (ChatGPT-4), hype around the next version, ChatGPT-5 has already started to swirl. Twitter was abuzz with users speculating about the release date and features of ChatGPT-5.
ChatGPT is a popular AI assistant, used to perform tasks like homework, marketing planning, coding, and recipe generation based on user’s fridge content. ChatGPT even assists politicians with speech writing, which increases its popularity among the masses. The latest version, ChatGPT-4, was recently released, bringing with it upgraded accuracy and creativity, according to Sam Altman, one of the executives behind OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT. However, despite its newness, societies’ desire for the next best thing has driven speculation and enthusiasm towards the next AI iteration, ChatGPT-5.
Twitter exploded with conversations about ChatGPT-5, with users hoping it would offer flawless graphing capabilities, which they claim its predecessor lacked. Shodai Kiuchi, also known as the ‘Samurai Entrepreneur’, shared that while ChatGPT-4 has been trained until August 2022, the yet-to-be-released successor might be trained using the same data.
He also revealed a report from Morgan Stanley stating that the training of ChatGPT-5 involved up to 25,000 GPUs. While the sources pointed to the likely release of ChatGPT-5 around mid-2024 in the US, no further details have been disclosed about the launch.
While anticipation for ChatGPT-5 increases, questions about AI safety continue to loom. These concerns are fueled by fictional narratives, such as the Terminator movies which depict AI bots becoming sentient and taking over the world. As AI continues to develop and deliver advanced capabilities like the hypothetical ability of ChatGPT-8 to 3D print spaceships, discussions regarding safe and responsible AI usage will likely remain critical.
