Images from DALL·E can now be modified directly within ChatGPT on both web and mobile platforms.

OpenAI has introduced a breakthrough feature to the DALL-E image generation model that allows users to adjust and refine the AI-generated images directly on the platform. The innovative addition takes the form of an editor interface which operates intuitively, simplifying the task of making changes to images through the use of text prompts that facilitate a conversation-style interaction.

Previously, DALL-E users had to deal with numerous prompt modifications to hit upon their exact vision, a sometimes inconvenient process prompting requests for a tool that allows for more immediate alterations. OpenAI’s response is the DALL-E editor, a creativity-enhancing invention that streamlines image design at the touch of a button.

Once an image is generated, it can be edited by selecting the area or areas needing change and typing the necessary commands. Both micro and macro adjustments can be made, from making changes specifically to the selected area or administering an overall change like converting the entire image to black and white.

The DALL-E editor stands out among comparable tools, such as Microsoft’s Designer, due to its unique, responsive quality. This allows users to communicate with the DALL-E editor as they would an AI assistant, expressing instructions intuitively and watching the changes occur. For instance, if a user wishes to remove an object, they can simply select it and type “remove.” And if they wish to change the season in the photo, they can say “add cherry blossoms” and watch as spring appears in the image.

Interestingly, this remarkable interface isn’t confined to the web platform but has extended to the ChatGPT app, making it useful across web, iOS, and Android platforms. Customers can smoothly modify DALL-E images in the ChatGPT app by choosing an image, clicking “Edit,” and typing their desired changes in the chat box. This cogent integration with ChatGPT elevates the user experience by enabling fluidity between text and image changes without leaving the interface.

However, the premium feature – DALL-E editor is only accessible to ChatGPT Plus subscribers at a service price of $20/month. This move by OpenAI may influence potential users of the DALL-E editor. Offering a free alternative, Microsoft Designer provides access to DALL-E 3, giving everyone a chance to delve into AI-driven creativity.

Overall, OpenAI’s newest update to DALL-E is a significant stride in making AI more interactive, intuitive, and accessible. The launch of an editor interface that uses conversational prompts, integrates smoothly with other platforms, and allows direct interaction with images reiterates OpenAI’s commitment to blending creativity with technology.

OpenAI revealed the update on its official Twitter handle. It displayed an image with the caption, “You can now edit DALL·E images in ChatGPT across web, iOS, and Android.” The tweet highlighted OpenAI’s determination to provide tools that align with the future where creativity and technology seamlessly intertwine across multiple platforms.
