Meta introduces a chatbot assistant powered by Llama-3, Meta AI, to rival ChatGPT.

Tech conglomerate Meta has announced the introduction of its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI. Powered by Meta’s latest and most powerful large language model (LLM) known as Meta Llama 3, the AI chatbot is set to offer stiff competition to similar technologies such as Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Meta Llama 3 serves as the backbone of Meta AI. The LLM is noteworthy for its extraordinary capabilities, with a performance level that far exceeds its predecessor, Llama 2. Equipped with between 8 and 70 billion parameters, it offers exceptional diversity of response and alignment, reducing errors and enhancing overall outcomes. Meta has also crafted a new 12 use-case human evaluation set to ensure the model provides ‘real-world’ performance.

Meta AI is an AI assistant built using Meta Llama 3, accessible for free via apps such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Its popularity is rising, as users worldwide employ it to perform a variety of tasks and enhance connection with their interests. Furthermore, while the platform was once restricted to Meta’s apps, the chatbot now has its own stand-alone website, making it accessible from desktop devices.

For Instagram users, Meta AI can be found in the search panel or contacted directly via direct messages. The feature allows users to search without leaving the app and to create AI images by ‘prompting’ the feature. The same functionality is available on Messenger and WhatsApp.

Visitors can interact with and ask questions of Meta AI via a simple chat interface hosted on the platform’s website. The chatbot can generate AI images for free, a service for which OpenAI charges $20. However, the chatbot’s availability is limited to 13 countries, necessitating the use of a VPN for access from other locations.

In developing Meta AI, Meta built upon Llama 3, taking additional steps to ensure the tech supports responsible use. The system has been enhanced, with improved responses and the integration of specific instructions to enhance functionality. Meta has established benchmarks to evaluate the chatbot’s performance and implemented safeguards at both the prompt and response level. Tools for feedback have also been incorporated, to allow for ongoing model training and improvement, with a firm commitment to transparency.

In conclusion, Meta AI is an intelligent assistant designed to aid in a variety of areas, from research and hobbies to social connection viz its AI image-generation capability. The assistant can be accessed either through Meta’s suite of apps or via the Meta AI website.
