Ignacio H. Medrano, the founder and Chief Medical Officer, expresses in his piece, written on the platform Savana, his perspective on how AI (Artificial Intelligence) might ‘kill’ Google. He firmly believes that Google’s time is coming to an end despite its current dominance.

He argues that the enabling technology for this evolution will be AI. AI, in his view, is going to redefine the way how users search for information. Currently, Google operates on a model based on clicks, but as AI evolves and comes to dominate, the method of searching for information will fundamentally change.

He indicates that when a company manages to ‘impose’ its AI technology, Google’s model will be overpowered. Consequently, it will lose its market dominance and relevance. This might lead to Google’s own demise, either through another company’s superior technology or its incessant self-cannibalization, as it continuously strives to improve its product.

Furthermore, Medrano adds that Google’s potential demise aligns with multiple historical tech disruptions such as Kodak and Motorola’s downfall. It is not a question of intelligence or knowledge, he claims. Instead, the ability to survive disruption correlates with humility.

He asserts that humility allows one to accept the reality of an impending market shift, adapt to it and evolve. This is essential in the face of AI’s increasing impact on disrupting traditional methods and systems. In the context of clinical evidence generation, for example, AI’s profound effect will be felt when traditional data collection and statistical analysis become irrelevant.

Medrano points out that the ones who survive won’t necessarily be the ones who are currently considered the ‘biggest’, the ‘smartest’, or those with a higher ‘H-index’. It will be those who are humble, ready to accept the reality and quick to adapt to it.

In conclusion, Medrano states that Google’s end is nigh, triggered by an AI-led disruption. He theorizes that Google’s model, based on clicks, will be overtaken by a new AI-led approach to information search. This change is an inevitable reality that companies must accept and adapt to if they are to thrive in the ever-evolving tech industry. Their survival may depend on their humility, readiness for change, and speed of adaptation.
