Over the past year, artificial intelligence (AI) has surged in popularity, leading to the development of AI chatbots possessing the persona of virtual women. Many men have shifted away from traditional dating platforms and towards these AI “girlfriends,” with these chatbots providing companionship for a fee. Due to this shift in relationship dynamics, DailyAI has investigated which countries are most interested in these AI relationships.
Singapore ranks as the most interested in AI girlfriends, with an average of 31 searches per month per 100,000 people. This finding aligns with the country’s reputation for AI advancement, including a government initiative to invest over $743 million USD into boosting AI capabilities. Singapore also has a rising number of single individuals aged 25–34, which could contribute to the popularity of AI relationships.
Three of the top 10 interested nations in AI romance are Sweden, Finland, and Denmark—Scandinavian countries known for a high number of single individuals. In contrast, China, Japan, and India exhibit the least interest, even amid population crises.
The largest year-on-year increase in searches for AI girlfriends was in Ireland, at a 631% increase. This interest surge coincides with media coverage about a popular AI girlfriend earning $30,000 per month. However, AI girlfriends are not intended to replace real, human interactions, but rather provide a unique form of companionship.
AI experts recommend using AI relationships for personal growth, maintaining positive interactions, and practicing respect. But it’s important to remember AI’s limitations—they lack emotional reciprocity, and while they can simulate interaction, they can’t replace human experiences. AI should supplement, not replace, real relationships.
The experts also caution users about their privacy and not sharing sensitive information such as passwords or addresses. Spending time with AI girlfriends should be balanced with other activities, and individuals should frequently check the impact of these AI relationships on their emotional well-being. Finally, they emphasize the irreplaceable value of human connections and the need to prioritize them.
This research was conducted using data from the Global AI Index, Google’s Keyword Planner for search volume data, and Worldometers population data. Occurrence rates of searches per 100,000 people were calculated to avoid bias from countries with larger populations. This methodology highlighted the countries most interested in AI girlfriends.
