Spotify, the globally renowned music streaming service, has further personalized its user experience by introducing its AI DJ feature to its Australian premium subscribers. Using artificial intelligence technology, Spotify’s AI DJ curates a customized playlist for its users. This cutting-edge feature has been designed to deliver the most fitting pieces of music for any given time or mood, while potentially introducing users to their next favorite artist. Initially released on a beta version, the AI DJ serves as a personalized guide that discerns users’ music tastes and accordingly selects music for them.
The AI DJ, acting as the host, possesses a stunningly realistic voice courtesy of Spotify’s collaboration with OpenAI’s generative technology. This AI DJ not only curates new music but also dives into users’ older favorites, potentially resurrecting classics that haven’t been listened to for a long time. Based on the feedback and responses given by the users, the AI DJ continues to create a personalized stream of songs.
To access the AI DJ, users should navigate to the Music Feed on the Spotify app and press “play” on the DJ card. Should users be unsatisfied with the selection, hitting the DJ button will substitute the track with music from a different artist. Notably, if the AI DJ feature is not immediately found, typing “AI DJ” into the search bar will prompt it to appear.
In 2021, Spotify acquired Sonantic, an AI voice platform, which now is known to have played a pivotal role in creating the AI DJ’s voice. In crafting the voice model for the DJ, Spotify collaborated with Xavier X Jernigan, their Head of Cultural Partnerships. Xavier was previously a host on Spotify’s first morning show, The Get Up, and his distinctive personality and voice had garnered a loyal listenership. Borrowing from his popularity, Xavier’s voice was chosen as the first model for the AI DJ, enhancing the personalized and immersive music experience that Spotify seeks to provide.
